Al Habtoor Group holds fundraising event for people with special needs
Al Habtoor Group held an event for young people with special needs and their families on Thursday May 26, 2011.
The function took place from 4 - 7pm at the Habtoor Grand Resort and Spa hotel and was attended by over 60 children and young adults with special needs, as well as their families, their carers and members of the Special Families Support Group.
Games, music and art classes were put on for the children’s entertainment. There were bean bags for them to sit on and the hotel provided party food and refreshments.
One of the special needs children - Ismail Tambawala from India, celebrated his 6th birthday on the day, choosing to spend it with members of the SFS, instead of his friends.
Nilufer Salim, a 22-year-old hotel receptionist from Pakistan is another who was celebrating a birthday. She told how she was very excited to be spending it in the Habtoor Grand Resort and Spa Hotel and with members of the Special Families Support Group.
Established in December 1999, the group was formed to allow families that have members with special needs, to meet and share their experiences both with others in similar situations and those who simply want to gain a better understanding of special needs. SFS currently has over 150 members from Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Abu Dhabi.
By staging this event, the Al Habtoor Group was highlighting the fact that the Habtoor Grand Resort and Spa is a family orientated hotel and one which is actively involved in Dubai community life.
