The municipality of Abu Dhabi plans to construct an elevated monorail to provide transportation to and from the city. The project is part of a 25.8 billion Emirati dirham (seven million dollar) upgrade of the Emirate’s transportation system, reported Khaleej Times.
To be completed by 2020, the renewal of the public roads includes the construction of bridges, intersections, inner bypass routes, and headways. The monorail will be equipped with fully air-conditioned stations and boarding platforms.
A monorail is a single rail serving as a track for passenger or freight vehicles. In most cases the rail is elevated. Vehicles are either suspended from or straddle a narrow guideway, with the actual vehicle being wider than the guideway that supports them. — (menareport.com)
