A controversial BD90 million tourism investment project in Budaiya may soon be put off. Bahraini Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa ordered Marina West investors to seek villagers' approval prior to any construction.

According to the GDN, residents are opposing to the project, claiming it spreads on their residential areas with its 30-storey-high buildings.

The Northen Municipal Council had given the initial go-ahead for West Marina. The development project, to stretch over 800,000 square metres, was meant to feature 11 residential towers consisting of 1,270 flats, a marina club, markets and other infrastructure public amenities.
