Some of the biggest names in Information Technology (IT) security from around the world will gather in Dubai next October when the Etisalat Academy hosts MEITSEC 2003 (Middle East IT Security Conference), October 4-9, 2003.

This will be the third time this leading event has been hosted by the Academy. Over 300 IT professionals from around the Arab world and elsewhere attended last year’s event, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and all the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, Iran, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, Yemen and other African and Asian countries.

“MEITSEC has become a prominent annual event where world IT security experts meet to discuss new trends of this vital field. IT applications have dominated all spheres of life and business sectors. Hence, the dire need to address the growing security challenges associated with its development.” Commented Doaa Fares, general manager of Etisalat Academy.

“IT Security is a very important subject, particularly here in the Gulf,” he added. “Because IT crime is a relatively new phenomenon, we are still in the development phase for legislation in this field. Conferences such as ours are vital as they allow IT professionals from around the world to share their experience on a regional basis.” He said.

“As the Academy is the regional representative for some of the world’s leading names in IT security, this gives us the edge in this field and makes MEITSEC the most important IT security forum in the Middle East region,” added Fares. “ This year there will be a particular emphasis on the banking sector, including the stock markets, which is one of the fastest growing industry segments in the region.”

During the event, high profile speakers from all over the world will present topics ranging from best practices, next generation security services, cyber forensics and computer crimes investigation and legislative issues.

Running alongside the five-day conference there are a series of free workshops. These workshops will address the issues of IT experts’ accreditation, e-commerce, its security threats and vulnerabilities and how to protect your organisation from poorly protected remote access and external hacking. — (menareport.com)
