Electricite du Liban workers [in Lebanon] will stage sit-ins and suspend work on April 10 and 11 to protest the annulment of basic articles in the company’s new budget.

In a statement, the association of EDL’s employees said the workers had been surprised to learn that the company’s management had reduced some of the benefits and bonuses in the 2013 budget despite the fact they had been promised earlier that these rights would not be tampered with.

The statement said the workers wanted the old agreement back, which stipulated that employees were entitled to overtime pay and a transportation allowance based on the distance they traveled.

The workers said all technical repairs and maintenance work would be halted on April 10 and 11. They threatened to escalate the situation further if their demands fell on deaf ears.
