Dubai's Emirates airline said Monday, September 24, it will reduce flights to a number of destinations during the two weeks from September 27 to October 10 due to a lack of demand. "We are canceling some flights to reflect demand," said Ghaith Al-Ghaith, commercial operations director of Emirates, which serves 57 destinations.
"The destinations affected are: Bahrain, Muscat, Doha and Dammam in the Gulf; Karachi, Hyderabad and Hong Kong in Asia; and London Heathrow, Birmingham, Dusseldorf and Zurich in Europe," he said in a statement.
The airline industry is one of the sectors hardest hit by the September 11 terror attacks in the United States, and a fall in passenger traffic owing to a global economic slowdown. Airlines throughout the world have announced that tens of thousands of people will lose their jobs, profits will evaporate, with fleets and routes are to be pared. ― (AFP, Dubai)
