Etisalat, the telecommunications operator of the United Arab Emirates, has selected Alcatel's Litespan 1540 multiservice access nodes. Etisalat will start deploying 100,000 lines throughout the coming year, in the urban and business areas of the Emirates' major cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Managed by a single Network Management System, Alcatel's solution combines open interface advantages with the capability to flexibly integrate different services (from narrowband to broadband) as well as different transport technologies (SDH or PDH). Etisalat will be able to capitalize on the Litespan 1540's broadband capabilities to provide its customers with ADSL as well as ISDN and data services, from a single access node.
Alcatel Litespan is an integrated access node, enabling an operator to flexibly deliver multiple services from a single node, by just plugging new services in its universal slot. Alcatel's Litespan-1540 supports mixed network technologies (TDM, ATM, IP) and topologies (ring, star, tree or a mix; copper, Fiber to the Curb, Fiber to the Home or Business).
Alcatel delivers integrated end-to-end voice and data networking solutions to established and new carriers, as well as enterprises and consumers worldwide. With 120,000 employees and sales of €23 billion in 1999, Alcatel operates in more than 130 countries. According to a company release, Alcatel enjoys a global market share of 34 percent in the ANSI market and of 25 percent in the ETSI market. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
