Dubai Duty Free has predicted that sales at its airport outlets will reach 810 million dirhams by the end of 2000—about 22.5 percent higher than in 1999, when they reached Dh 660 million—reported Gulf News.
The bold prediction came on the heels of strong performance in November sales, as sales reached an all-time high of Dh76.5 million, exceeding the record Dh72.2 million registered in October. A single-day sales record was set on November 24—Dh3.174 million worth of purchases was recorded.
Dubai Duty Free began was launched in December 1983 and in 1984—its first full year of business—recorded sales of $20 million in 1984. The facility, which located at Dubai’s international airport, comprises an area of 5,400 square-meters. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
