The Calcutta-based Shellac Export Promotion Council of India (SEPC), an association sponsored by the India’s Ministry of Commerce, has announced plans to embark on a sales drive at Index Cairo, the furniture and design exhibition, which will run at the Cairo International Exhibition Center (CICC) from June 4-7, 2002.
The association, which promotes the use of the natural organic Shellac resin for use in furniture varnishes, says Shellac consumption within Egypt is currently exceeding $2.2 million, having grown from $1.3 million in just four years.
“This in itself is an indication of the growth of the indigenous furniture manufacturing sector within Egypt,” said Shri Sushil Kr. Saraf, SEPC chairman. The council is out to challenge a threat from alternative synthetic sources from the Far East. — (menareport.com)
