Employees of Israel's national oil company began a strike Tuesday that could halt air traffic in a matter of days, the civil aviation service said.

If the strike against plans to privatize the company continues beyond Wednesday, planes may be stuck on the ground for lack of fuel, the service said.

The national rail company said its reserves were sufficient for trains to run for a week while the national electricity company said its power plants have enough fuel for five days. The striking employees oppose plans to privatize the oil company and split it in two.— AFP
