L-3 Communications’ KDI Precision Products (L-3 KDI) business unit, has been awarded a $37.7 million firm-fixed-price supply contract for the procurement of FMU-139B/B electronic bomb fuzes.
These fuzes will be utilized by the US Navy, US Air Force and the governments of Egypt, the Netherlands and Belgium. The contract, issued by Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, MD, also includes associated fuze accessory kits.
The FMU-139B/B fuze is used to detonate general-purpose, air-delivered bombs and guided weapon systems, such as the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM), immediately at impact, after a delay following impact, or upon a signal from a separate proximity sensor. It is an updated version of the FMU-139A/B fuze originally developed by Motorola and the US Navy during the 1980's.
