Sure, getting the little blue tick next to your Twitter account is an achievement, but now anyone can get it. Here is how.
Earlier Twitter's verified accounts were reserved for brands, media and other public figures. However, the microblogging site now has a very streamlined application procedure by which everyone who wants a verified account can get one. To apply for one, you will need a verified phone number, a confirmed email address, a Twitter bio, an accurate profile picture, date of birth, a website and all your Tweets set to public. Additionally, Twitter might also ask for a ID verification, as well as reasons why your account needs to be verified and the authenticity of your content.
"We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification," said Twitter in a statement. "We hope opening up this application process results in more people finding great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for these creators and influencers to connect with a broader audience."
As of now, Twitter has 320 million monthly active users, out of which only 187,000 are verified. By adding more verified accounts, Twitter can clean out fake and parody users. There is no guarantee as such that you will get your account verified, but at least the process is open to everyone.
