The Liberian oil tanker that ran aground Saturday while crossing the Suez Canal was buoyed on Tuesday and navigation back to normal in the waterway, said the Suez Canal Authority Chairman Ahmad Ali Fadil.
Tropic Brilliant ran aground on Saturday, blocking the navigation course of the canal. "10 tug boats have been working since Monday to refloat the 85,000-ton tanker after discharging 30,000 tons of its load," Fadil conveyed.
"The SCA's tanker Nabila and Karnak were used to such the jettisoned load of crude oil," he said. Some 56 ships have been stranded in anchorage areas outside Suez and Port Said ports since the accident occurred.
This was the first time the international waterway was closed since 1975. (menareport.com)
