A Pakistani effort to improve its foothold in the Iraqi market is appearing to pay off, with news that it has received $102.9 million worth of export tenders from Iraq, as part of the UN-monitored oil-for-food program, said Tariq lkram, chairman of Pakistan’s Export Promotion Bureau.

Quoted by Asia Pulse, lkram said Pakistan’s efforts to increase trade volume with Iraq since February had borne fruit, with its exports to Iraq increasing between $15 million and $18 million per annum, from between $5 million and $6 million.

In August, Sardar Raza Muhammad Barrech, the acting president of the Federation of Pakistani Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said that Pakistan might look into the possibility of trade with Iraq by land via Iran. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
