The American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) held the dedication ceremony of the Halim and Aida Daniel Academic and Clinical Center in the presence of Mr. and Mrs. Halim Daniel and family, AUB President Dr. Fadlo R. Khuri, Executive Vice President for Medicine and Global Strategy, Raja N. Khuri Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at AUB Dr. Mohamed H. Sayegh. The private ceremony was attended by AUB leadership, AUBMC senior staff along with Daniel family members.

The Halim and Aida Academic and Clinical Center is a major landmark that provides a holistic approach to healing and teaching in an environment that merges patient care, education, and research in one mixed-use building. It will house many new services that are aligned with the healthcare needs of our community and that will cater to more patients from Lebanon and the region. Several Centers of Excellence by specialty, will be inaugurated to combine procedures, exam rooms, and associated clinical services all in a single floor with collaborative space.

Named in honor of Mr. Jamal Daniel’s parents, Halim and Aida, Daniel ACC will enhance AUB’s clinical, academic, and research capabilities and will create an environment that enables high-performance academic medicine by combining aspects of the Faculty of Medicine and the Hariri School of Nursing with outpatient services in one building.

Dr. Sayegh thanked Jamal Daniel and The Levant Foundation for their philanthropic contribution. He said, “This unique, state-of-the-art center is a groundbreaking step towards the realization of AUBMC 2020 Vision and a landmark in the development of the New Medical Complex. Daniel ACC reflects our commitment to propelling patient care, medical education, and research in Lebanon and the region to new and unprecedented levels of excellence. The donation by The Levant Foundation has spearheaded our capital campaign under AUBMC 2020 Vision”.

President Khuri said, "Every world-class university with a major medical center needs to be unafraid of challenging current medical practices, of upsetting existing dogma. In order to do this, first-rate outpatient facilities are mandatory to refine our art and develop our clinical trials. Clinical trials and the research that drives them are the portal to better care for patients with serious, debilitating and life-threatening diseases. Quite simply, the inauguration of the Aida and Halim Daniel ACC allows us to elevate our clinical care to a genuinely world class level, and to launch clinical trials of the highest caliber. This is truly transformative change for the university, and we are grateful to the Daniel family for making this possible."

Mr. Jamal Daniel said, “We are delighted that the Halim and Aida Daniel Academic and Clinical Center will touch the lives of future generations by providing both world-class education and the very best medical care for Lebanon and the Region, with the benefit of this first-class building and facility.  The AUB institution is part of our collective history, and we need altogether in the Levant Region to go on reclaiming that history, because only when we see the world as it really is, can we begin to imagine what it could be”.

Daniel ACC, which will officially open its doors in the spring of 2018, keeps pace with the rigorous progress worldwide and offers the latest high-tech in healthcare. It further attests to AUBMC’s advancement and commitment to the welfare of its community.
