FGP and the General Directorate of Civil Defence team up to tackle the issue of fire safety
First Gulf Properties (FGP), a real estate service provider specialising in end-to-end property solutions, met with the General Directorate of Civil Defence- Abu Dhabi to discuss ways of developing their existing relationship. Mr Jasim Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of FGP, received a delegation from the General Directorate of Civil Defence- Abu Dhabi headed by Major Saleh Mohammed Harbi Al Amiri, Head of Civil Protection Department, to tackle the issue of fire safety and find ways to reduce fire-related incidents.
There have been numerous fire incidents breaking out in the UAE recently. In 2014 alone, there were nearly 1500 cases reported in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and Dubai according to the General Directorate of Civil Defence. Thankfully, the number has decreased compared to previous years, however, fire safety and prevention has to remain a top priority for the community.
FGP and the General Directorate of Civil Defence are looking for ways of enhancing the security and safety measures at all FGP facilities across the UAE, with the aim of outlining the required procedures to maintain safety and protect the community’s wellbeing. FGP and the Civil Defence team are looking to spread fire prevention and safety messages across the community and will start by engaging FGP tenants across the UAE through the introduction of fire safety awareness programmes.
Commenting on the partnership with the General Directorate of Civil Defence, Mr Jasim Al Ali said: “FGP is committed to improve the security and safety standards across all facilities under its management. FGP is keen on further improving security standards and so we will continue to spread knowledge about fire safety and implement fire emergency evacuation plans.”
Al Ali added: “I commend the efforts of the General Director of Civil Defence in providing fire safety training to FGP tenants and employees – an initiative we consider absolutely critical to maintaining the health and safety of our residents, office workers and staff. FGP is keen on further improving security standards and so we will continue to spread knowledge about fire safety and implement fire emergency evacuation plans.”
Major Saleh Mohammed Harbi Al Amiri highlighted FGP’s commitment in positioning itself as a pioneer real estate management company and stressed that having the opportunity to collaborate with FGP is of mutual benefit.
FGP manages 14,000 commercial and residential units thus allowing a greater opportunity for the fire prevention message to be cascaded down to a large audience.

Lecturers from the General Directorate of Civil Defense also offered FGP employees a presentation titled “Security and Fire Safety”, which included an overview of the common causes of fire, fire prevention tips as well as the fire code of conduct. Today, FGP still carries out regular fire and evacuation training sessions to test the emergency equipment and programmes in place, and their effectiveness.
