Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and President of the Board of Regents of Abu Dhabi University (ADU), 1,368 students from the Year of Zayed class, received their graduation certificates from His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Vice President of ADU’s Board of Regents, at a special ceremony.

The 1,368 graduates of the class of 2018 included 688 undergraduate students, 507 master’s students, 16 PhD students, and 157 cadets from ADU’s military programs. Furthermore, 443 students received their degrees cum laude.

The graduation ceremony drew the participation of ADU’s Board of Regents members including Dr Maitha Al Shamsi, Minister of State, His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director-General of Dubai Health Authority, Saeed Eid Al Ghafli, Board Chairman of Abu Dhabi Housing Authority, His Excellency Nasser Ahmed Al Sowaidi, Vice Chairman of First Abu Dhabi Bank,  His Excellency Dr Hadef Al Dhaheri, Former Minister of Justice, His Excellency Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Global Market, His Excellency Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of ADU’s Executive Board, Qusai Mohammad Al-Ghussain, General Manager of Bin Harmal Group, as well as government officials, deans and faculty members of ADU’s diverse colleges, and parents of the graduating students.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan said: “On behalf of the Board of Regents of Abu Dhabi University, I welcome you in this special celebration, the gradation of this new class of ADU students which is honored to be the Class of Year of Zayed. Abu Dhabi University has earned a prestigious stature among the universities of the region and the world and conforms to international standards through constantly obtaining international accreditations for its programs, colleges and the University as an institution from international bodies.”

His Excellency added: “Abu Dhabi University is committed to achieving quality in all aspects: striving to enrich the student learning experience, conducting useful research and offering important programs that serve the environment and the community with extended relations with the community’s institutions and the nation as well as international universities.”

Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhaheri said: “We are proud of the success story ADU has achieved till date. At ADU, it is our sustained endeavor to equip future generations with the knowledge and skillsets needed to contribute to the achievement of the UAE Vision 2021 and the more long-term UAE Centennial 2071. As part of this priority, we inaugurated our campus in Dubai this year and a new academic center in Dhafra region.”

To enable our students to pursue their educational objectives in a wide range of specializations, ADU extends an AED12 million scholarship and financial aid program to outstanding and deserving students.

For his part, Ahmed al Sheimilei, an Aviation graduate from ADU’s College of Engineering and valedictorian of ADU’s Year of Zayed graduating class, said: “Apart from marking an important milestone for all of us on a personal level, this graduation ceremony holds a historic significance for the nation as well, in coinciding with the UAE’s Year of Zayed celebrations. We are all proud of our University’s continuous advancement in its academic journey as it aims to meet the human capital requirements outlined in the policy agenda of the Government of Abu Dhabi and the objectives of the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.”

A short film highlighting student life at ADU was screened at the ceremony. The event concluded with His Excellency Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhaheri presenting His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan with a token of appreciation for his support to the University and its programs since its inception.

Abu Dhabi University

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Unlike other colleges and universities in the UAE, ADU undertook the measures necessary to ensure that all of the degree programs it would offer had secured accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in advance of any students enrolling in them.
