MG Jordan Partners with Red Bull Car Drift
MG Motor and legendary driver, Abdo Feghali, teamed up to showcase the abilities of the new MG GT at the 11th Red Bull Car Drift in Amman, Jordan. The sporty MG GT was the focal point of a special, adrenaline-fuelled demonstration, thanks to a partnership between Red Bull and the British-born brand’s retail partner in the country, MESC.
The demonstration combined Feghali’s renowned experience and skill with the impressive performance of the sporty MG GT, which remarkably incorporated only minimal tuning to the handbrake and exhaust.
Beneath the car’s sporty exterior, the 1.5T MG GT is equipped with a highly-efficient four-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers maximum horsepower of 173 PS and up to 250 N.m of torque.
The tournament featured more than 20 participants who put their drifting skills to the test on the most challenging and exciting of routes in the Showground at Airport Road in Amman. Driver Anas El Helo was crowned champion of the Red Bull Car Park Drift tournament, and consequently qualified to represent Jordan in the world finals this December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Mohammed Shaheen, Managing Director of MESC, said: “We are proud of the partnership we have established with Red Bull, which is perfectly in keeping with MG’s award-winning reputation for creating sporty cars. The MG GT reflects the personalities and ambitions of today’s millennials, which will attract potential customers to the brand and help us with our objective of ranking first in terms of sales in the Jordanian market against our competitors.”
Tom Lee, Managing Director of MG Motor Middle East, commented: “It always excites us to see our MG GT being put to the test, proving its performance and sheer capabilities. Watching Abdo Feghali, a legendary figure in the drifting scene in the region, in the driving seat of an MG reflects our vision of providing cars that reward customers with a fun driving experience. MG always supports such unique activities where customers get an opportunity to see MG vehicles performing in tough driving conditions. I am also delighted to see the partnership with Red Bull – this partnership makes particular sense as both MG and Red Bull target similar customers, who are adventurous, daring and belong to a younger demographic.”
Today, MG is more than an iconic octagonal badge; it is once again a motoring force to be reckoned with. Our much-loved British brand has been re-launched with the financial backing of one of the world’s largest car manufacturers, which allows us to stand tall in the global market.
The new range of MG models, that have been designed and engineered at our site in Longbridge, Birmingham, include the MG3, MG GS and MG ZS.
