Royal Philips Electronics, announced today that the state-of-the-art Philips Mammo Diagnostic DR won the Breast Cancer Arabia Award for their ‘Best Solution’ category in the Middle East.

Breast Cancer Arabia (BCA) is an interactive internet portal that provides women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer the three things they will need, which are high quality information about breast cancer and its treatment, a place to go and get treatment and lastly a support system. The site is equipped with thirty-nine high definition videos that take the patient through the breast cancer journey by explaining the screening, assessment and diagnosis process, the different types and stages of breast cancer, surgery and therapies, and the follow up phase.

Philips’ Mammo Diagnostic DR was nominated among other reputable active healthcare players in the Middle East. It was then announced as the winner after meeting the BCA’s Awards criteria for the ‘Best Solution’ category, which focused on innovation, patient comfort, ease of use, recording and reporting. The final decision was judged by an independent panel that consisted of a general practitioner, a breast cancer survivor, the operational manager of a breast cancer charity and a school official who organises health talks for parents.

The Award was received by Diederik Zeven – General Manager of Philips Healthcare Middle East. “We are very pleased with this recognition. Philips is committed to bring the best possible care for women - from education, prevention to diagnosis and treatment”, he said.

“The Mammo Diagnostic DR, Philips’ digital solution for mammography, is designed for efficient high-volume screening. It provides excellent image quality and the streamlined intuitive user interface at the console makes working with the system comfortable and efficient for the radiographer and allows for a quick and easy examination for the patient”, he added.

Elizabeth Reyes, Director of Breast Cancer Arabia also commented, “If screening is carried out properly with high quality solutions, and the mammograms are read accurately, it is, in certain age groups, possible to reduce the risk of death from breast cancer by almost 50%”.

“Having a mammogram taken can be uncomfortable for women, so any improvements in the comfort of a mammo solution can make a real difference to the experience that women have during the screening process. We understand that this was a major factor in the independent panel choosing the Philips Mammo Diagnostic DR as the winner”.

Philips simplifies healthcare by focusing on the people in the care cycle – patients and care providers. Through combining human insights and clinical expertise, Philips aims to improve patient outcomes while lowering the burden on the healthcare system. Advanced healthcare solutions are a fundamental part of the portfolio for both healthcare professionals and consumers, to meet the needs of patients in hospitals and at home.
