Qatar National Library Offers Continuing Education During June
Though schools may not be in session, Qatar’s children can keep learning thanks to many events at Qatar National Library (QNL) in June.
On June 9, young Arabic readers will hear the story of one of Prophet Mohammed’s companions, a hero embodied with the virtues of strength, courage, patience, and the love of God and His Messenger. Attendees can also take part in arts and crafts activities related to the companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him. Aspiring thespians can tap into their expressive side at the Little Actors workshop on June 20, where they will be introduced to the world of theater through role-playing activities.
Young adults, too, can continue their education at the Library. On June 9, the Wonders of Science event encourages participants to check out the extensive collection of scientific books in the library’s young adults collection and share what they learn. On June 22, ‘Mechanics: A STEM Activity for Teens’ will explore the scientific principles of cams and cranks, with the opportunity to build working models.
“The summer holiday is an excellent time for school-aged children to explore new areas of learning outside the classroom, and our events are designed to give them a fun, educational, hands-on experience in a creative and welcoming environment,” said Abeer Al Kuwari, Director of Research and Learning Services at QNL.
All library members can benefit from a pair of June 6 events that will introduce QNL's wide range of collections, including a hands-on activity on how to use the catalog to help users familiarize themselves on how to do their own searching efficiently.
After Eid Al-Fitr, QNL will offer an interactive workshop on environmental sustainability in Islam, which will address questions about sustainability, its importance, and how it fits with Islamic teachings. On June 28, Dr. Ayman Elyyan continues the QNL’s lecture series with ‘The New Media and Public Interaction with the News’, in which he will present the results of a study on the influences that control readers during their interaction with the news press. Both events will be in Arabic.
Aspiring writers and university students are invited on June 23 to attend an interactive creative writing workshop. The hands-on event will explore the basics of creative writing and offer tips on the different elements of writing a book.
On June 25 and 26, education specialist Salah Al Yafei will present a lecture for parents on developing positive relationships with young adults, influencing their behavior, and helping them develop positive long-term values.
