Shell congratulates winners of the Kuwait annual engineering design competition

The Kuwait Engineering competition was concluded for the second year at an awards ceremony that took place on March 7^th, 2012, under the patronage of Sheikh Talal Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, Managing Director of Government, Parliament, Public Relations & Media. Senior representatives from Shell Companies in Kuwait, the Ministry of Education and the Energy Center for Engineering Consultancy, awarded the three winning teams with cash prizes, commemorative trophies and certificates at the Petrochemical Industries Company Boubyan Club Theatre. 

The first place was secured by a team from the Ahmad Al-Rubee High School whose innovative Balsa Bridge design was able to hold up to 72 KG of weight. The second and third places went to teams from the Universal American School and the New English School, respectively, who competed against 43 teams from all over Kuwait’s private and public high schools. 

Mr. Ahmad Atallah, Chairman & Managing Director for Shell Companies in Kuwait commented; “I am impressed with the competition turn out for this year and proud that Shell initiated such activity. I believe that innovative thinking requires courage and taking on challenge, and this is the essence of this competition. All participating teams relied not only on their intelligence, but they pushed their creative boundaries further by testing their skills with the “Balsa Bridge Design”. It is very encouraging to see so much young talent and healthy competition spirit in Kuwait that’s waiting to be discovered and I hope this competition will encourage students to pursue an education in engineering”.

The Kuwait Annual Engineering Design Competition has been a success since its launch in 2010 and as part of Shell’s corporate social responsibility program that supplements other youth development projects being carried out in partnership with Kuwait University.
