The people of Qatar sent more than 20 million Eid greetings during the first two days of the Eid Al Fitr holiday, according to phone traffic levels recorded by Qtel.
While SMS messaging made up the majority of the greetings, this year also saw a record number of Picture and Video Messages (MMS) delivered to mark the joyous occasion. The 20 million record-setting milestone includes all SMS and MMS sent since the first day of Eid was announced. Combined with phone greetings and international calls, the first two days of the holiday saw some of the highest traffic ever generated within Qatar, with the first day of Eid Al Fitr recording the heaviest traffic to date.
International traffic was particularly high, boosted in part by Qtel’s special rate for sending MMS greetings and wishes to over 700 mobile operators globally and locally in Qatar for only QR 0.90, which was made available throughout Ramadan and for the Eid holidays.
