Work has commenced on expanding the network of roads around BurJuman Centre that would include the setting up of new traffic systems to ease the flow of vehicles near the mall.
The new roads will further enhance the landscape of the 1.4 billion Emirati dirham ($381 million) expansion project.
Dubai Municipality is implementing the road development project, which involves the modification of the roads around BurJuman Centre including a brand new traffic junction that will be added to the Trade Centre road between the existing Karama and BurJuman junctions.
The road development program, which is scheduled to be completed in February 2004, will feature the use of advanced traffic simulation software. It will also help upgrade and modify existing services including the street lighting system in the area to ensure the safety of road users and the provision of traffic signs and road markings.
The BurJuman expansion project has entered its final construction phase. On the retail side, space will almost treble to 800,000 square feet from the current 300,000 square feet with the number of stores and cafes at BurJuman increasing from over 190 at present to approximately 300 after the expansion program is completed.
The entire built up area of the project will cover an area of 4.4 million square feet, and will also feature a 22-storey commercial office block with offices, a hi-tech business center, a 20,000 square foot exclusive conference hall, Internet facilities, cafes, a fully equipped gymnasium and other sports facilities.
On the residential side, BurJuman will also comprise 163 furnished and semi furnished condominiums in addition to a block of fully furnished luxury apartments. — (menareport.com)
