A new project to turn Sharjah Beach into a major leisure and tourist attraction has been announced by officials.
The Sharjah Beach Development Project, announced as part of the strategic plan of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council, will develop a 3.3km stretch along Sharjah Beach Road, featuring food trucks, art spaces, public squares, changing rooms, prayer ares, water sports, greenery, and shaded areas.

There will be parking lots on both sides of Sharjah Beach Road, stretching from Sharjah Ladies Club to the Ajman border.
Sheikh Khalid Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, chairman of SUPC, said: “We are working in cooperation with other government departments involved in the project to play our pivotal role and further improve the standard of living Sharjah.”
Khalid Mohammad Al Ali, secretary-general of SUPC, added: “The council is keen to give priority to the implementation of specific projects that will form the nucleus of the transformation being implemented by the council to improve and develop infrastructure, utility and public services in Sharjah, especially its waterfront areas.
The beach promenade offers different areas for walking, as well as a bicycle lane, which will be linked to an integrated citywide network. Additionally, a seating wall will span most of the project offering a place for viewing the sea and relaxation.
Other highlights of the project, which has five beach areas, are 1.5km of seating wall, picnic areas with seating and tables, and fitness areas.

No timescale was given for the expected completion of the project, which has been approved by Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
