Tunisia will soon be connected to the international underwater network of communication "Sea-Me-We 4", which passes through Europe and the Middle East and stretches to South-East Asia. The Tunisian Minister of Communication Technologies, Montassar Ouaïli, has launched the project of connection on Wednesday.
During the project an underwater optical-fiber cable will be installed and stretched from the beach of Sidi Salem, in Bizerte (a port which is located 60km north of Tunis), until the shores of the Italian city of Palermo, over a 102 kilometers length. From there, it will be connected to the main cable, which connects France, starting from Marseilles, to Singapore, via Alexandria (Egypt) and the Gulf.
The total length of the cable is approximately 18.500km and that it connects 14 countries all together including Tunisia, Algeria, France, Italy, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, linked Arab Emirates, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
