The Wave, Oman’s top tourism and seafront residential development, has announced the appointment of two Omani companies as consultants for environmental engineering and quantity surveying of the project.
Agreements have been inked with HMR Environmental Engineering Consultants for environmental consultancy and Majan Engineering Consultants for quantity surveying support. While HMR is an Omani-owned and managed environmental consulting firm based in Muscat, Majan Engineering has nearly four decades of expertise in the field within the Sultanate.
The Wave is a joint venture comprising Oman’s Waterfront Investments, representing the Government of the Sultanate of Oman, the National Investment Funds Company that represents the Omani Pension Funds and State General Reserve Funds and the UAE’s Majid Al Futtaim Investments.
Talking about the consultancy agreements, Jeff Rossely, Group Vice-President, Majid Al Futtaim Development, said: “The agreements with HMR and Majan Engineering are part of our initiatives to work with the best companies in the respective fields. A project of this nature requires strategic environmental management, and following this pact with HMR, we have an experienced partner in environment resource management.”
He added: “On the other hand, our agreement with Majan Engineering will help us in quantity surveying support and their expertise in all stages and fields of construction industry will play a pivotal role in successful execution of the project.”
Since its incorporation in 1994, HMR has developed in-house expertise in areas such as resource management, environmental impact and risk assessment, waste management, sustainable development, environmental monitoring and development of strategic environmental management systems. HMR also undertakes marine surveys and sedimentation studies to advice on protecting the marine environment in addition to regular audits on all contractors to ensure compliance with the controls set in place.
Majan Engineering Consultants – Quantity Surveying Division, formerly known as Widnell & Trollope, have been in the Sultanate since 1967. They are also in the process of setting up a Joint Venture with Baker Wilkins, who have an international presence and have been in the Middle East for the past 35 years.
