The White House over the weekend reiterated its threat that Syria would soon face sanctions for harboring and supporting "terrorist" groups.
Spokesman Scott McClellan said on Friday that the U.S. is moving toward implementing the Syria Accountability Act, approved by Congress earlier this year.
"Our goal is to make sure we take steps that will lead to Syria changing its behavior...And we'll have more to say on that very soon," McClellan said.
He added Syria sheltered "terror" organizations, gave safe passage to foreign fighters who attack U.S. forces in Iraq, is active in Lebanon and played a part in obtaining weapons of mass destruction.
Congress members who initiated the Syria Accountability Act threatened to take legal steps if the administration continues to delay imposing the sanctions. (menareport.com)
