The Syrian army clashed with the opposition in Aleppo on Saturday in what was the most violent fighting since 2012, AFP reports.
The clashes were “the fiercest since the fighting began in Aleppo and the closest yet to the intelligence base in Zahra neighborhood,” said Rami Abdel Rahman, the director of Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
According to the Syrian Revolution General Commission, government aircrafts “opened fire with heavy machine guns on the al Leyramun neighborhood, and the outskirts of the air force intelligence base.”
The Syrian army has bombed rebel-held areas throughout Aleppo over the past two days while the opposition has shelled multiple government-held districts, reports AFP.
Opposition fighters continue to battle the Syrian army in an effort to oust Syrian President Bashar Assad.
