President Bashar al-Assad claimed the three-year war that has rocked Syria worked in his favour, AFP reports on Sunday.

The Syrian president reportedly told the country’s state television: “This is a turning point in the crisis, both militarily in terms of the army's achievements in the war against terror, and socially in terms of national reconciliation processes and growing awareness of the truth behind the (attacks) targeting the country."

Human rights groups have frequently criticized the Assad regime and say over 150,000 civilians have been killed since the Syrian uprising began.
