A four-year-old boy has tragically died after he was left on a kindergarten bus for five hours in south-western Saudi Arabia.

“Yamen Mohammad Musa Khawaji took the bus to the kindergarten in the morning,” his uncle said. “However, when I went to pick him up at the end of the classes, I was told by kindergarten officials that he had not shown up. A search was conducted and Yamen was found dead on the bus. The police held the driver for questioning and the kindergarten was shut down pending the investigations,” the uncle was quoted as saying by Saudi daily Okaz on Wednesday.

Nayef Al Hakami, the spokesman for the police in Jazan Province, confirmed the tragic incident.

“The Sabya police received a call at 12:30 pm from the general hospital informing them about a dead child,” he said. “No signs of violence or abuse were found on his body and the investigators were told that they had slept on the bus taking him to the kindergarten and that he did not get off with the other students. The coroner confirmed that the cause of death was a severe drop in blood circulation as a result of suffocation.”

The father reportedly accepted the doctor’s view and said that his son’s death was his fate as decided by God.

Investigations are still underway, the spokesman added.
