According to Gulf News, an Indonesian housemaid jumped out of the window of her sponsor's third-story apartment on Saturday.

The woman told the police that she had attempted to escape due to having been locked inside the house with another housemaid.

She sustained leg and hip injuries from the fall and is currently in police custody.

A similar story occurred last Tuesday in which a 33-year-old woman jumped out of the second-story window of her house in order to escape the domestic abuse of her husband. This woman too resorted to jumping due to being held hostage inside her house.

She was admitted to a hospital and declared stable despite sustaining fractures. The police are investigating the case.

Additionally, a 24-year-old Pakistani man fell from a school building under construction and was admitted to the ICU on Wednesday morning, Gulf News reported. His condition is critical.

Khaleej Times reported a related story, in which a 3-year-old girl fell to her death from a sixth-story balcony while climbing the railing.

All four stories occurred within a week.

According to the 2017 World Report conducted by the Human Rights Watch, the UAE explicitly excludes domestic workers from labor law protections. Additionally, migrant workers remain highly vulnerable to forced labor despite efforts made to improve their conditions.

The report also states that domestic abuse by husbands on their wives is permitted by UAE laws as long as it remains within the boundaries of Islamic Law, meaning as long as there are no permanent or visible marks left on the victim.
