Legendary belly dancer Najwa Fouad has threatened to take Islamists to court if they dare delete dance scenes from the classical Egyptian films she starred in throughout her career. Najwa stressed that the Islamists have no right in amending part of Egypt’s culture and history.  She sees these films as not her possession alone but rather the proud property of all Egyptians.

According to Najwa, there are no more real belly dancers in Egypt aside from Egyptian controversial belly dancer Dina, and all others are mere performers. Najwa had danced for some of the most famous figures from around the world like the former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who was said amazed by her dancing ability and was said to ask about her during every visit he made to Egypt.

The appointment of the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi as President of Egypt has led many to anticipate that all classical and modern Egyptian films will undergo major censoring of scenes considered inappropriate.
