Whilst celebs from around the region showed up to pay condolences to Najwa Karam at her father's funeral, there was one surprising superstar missing. Melhem Barakat and his fellow songstress went on a U.S. tour together, and rumors even went around that the two were more than "just colleagues".
According to Sayidaty.net, at first when asked why he did not pay his condolences or attend the funeral ceremony, Melhem stressed that he did not want to discuss the matter. Shortly afterwards, Melhem revealed that he was not officially invited to the funeral ceremony as was the case with most celebrities.
Well, wa wa, boohoo for Melhem. We know it was hard for him to keep up with times and transfer to the world of music videos, but it appears that his ideas of antiquated etiquette kept him from attending an important event for a dear old acquaintance. Truth is he did allegedly get a text message with info on the funeral arrangements, but he was put off by the fact that most other celebs that were in attendance received personal phone calls.
He added that when it comes to death all differences are usually put aside. When his father passed away, he personally invited journalist George Ibrahim Al Khoury to attend despite the fact that they were practically at war with one another. Melhem said that when you act in such a way you show respect to the other person and expect to be treated in similar manner.
The frustrated performer stressed that general invitations to a funeral are usually done through a post in newspapers and not by sending SMS messages.
Well, times they are changing still, Melhem!
