The Egyptian entertainment world is in shock at a recent court verdict against Egyptian prominent comedian actor Adel Imam convicting him to a three month after being found guilty of insulting Islam in his different projects. Stars were outraged at the verdict as well as a number of scholars especially since the case escalated at a time when Islamists parties were gaining political power in Egypt.
Prominent Egyptian actress Yusra expressed her disappointment at the verdict and said, ‘where is the freedom of creativity, and the freedom that was demanded before and after the Egyptian January 25 Revolution and how can a person be accused of blasphemy and a non-believer of God for the roles he plays in films?’
Egyptian actor Khaled Yousif considers the matter a violation of the basic rights of freedom and that the case is a conspiracy against the entertainment world and Adel is merely the first victim.
Adel’s son, Rami Imam, wrote on his official page on the internet social network Faceboook, ‘My dear father, I will always be proud of you till the end of time and you will always remain my role model in the and you are like a mountain that cannot be affected by wind and will remain strong overcoming any obstacle in your way.’
Many other stars expressed their rejection of the verdict and said that it is unjust to be convicted for roles played in films, plays or television drama.
