ALBAWABA — Iranian media reports and circulating internet videos said a site for missiles operated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was hit in a fresh wave of U.S. airstrikes targeting southern Iran early Saturday.

Activists say the hit targeted an IRGC missile site near the city of Lar, in Fars Province, on Gerash Road. Videos circulating on social media purportedly showed enormous explosions, raging fires and huge plumes of smoke rising from the region but they could not be independently verified.

The attack happened after the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) launched a fresh round of military operations against targets inside Iran, a new escalation in the continuing dispute between Washington and Tehran.

At the same time, reports from the ground said Sanandaj, the capital of Iran's Kurdistan Province, was under intense artillery fire and that inhabitants in a number of southern regions heard several explosions overnight.

Blasts were reported in Bushehr Province, as well as on Qeshm Island and in the city of Sirik in Hormozgan Province, Iran’s Mehr News Agency claimed. Other reports said there had also been an explosion in Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan province.

At least three explosions took place in the Bamani area near Sirik, according to Mehr, although Iranian authorities have not confirmed which facilities were hit or released information on casualties or the level of damage.

Latest attacks come on top of fast increasing U.S. military operation against Iranian military facilities The latest attacks were reported across several provinces as fighting between the two countries continues to escalate.
