We’re not sure what UAE singer Ahlam is on, but right now some feel that she’s acting pretty delusional, after declaring herself as this era’s Um Kulthum.

Um Kulthum was a legendary Egyptian singer in the 1930s through to the 1970s, and was widely known as “Kawkab Al Sharq” - Arabic for “The Planet of the East.”

The over-confident singer made the announcement on her Instagram account, when she posted a picture of Um Kulthum with the caption: “For every era there is a Kawkab Al Sharq.” That woman never seizes to amaze us!

According to Elaph news, Ahlam received both negative and positive feedback for her bold statement. She particularly received negative feedback from a large majority of the Egyptian people, who were the most opposed to this comparison and said she was “out of her mind” for comparing herself with the legendary singer, who was one of the most influential singers to exist in the Arab world.

Contrary to her usual nature, Ahlam kept schtum despite them also saying that what Ahlam does has nothing to do with “real” art!

What do you think of Ahlam’s comparison?
