In late July/early August, at the height of the regime siege of the city, kids in rebel-controlled east Aleppo began burning tires in the streets in an effort to confuse Syrian and Russian warplanes above. Many hailed them as brave, while others claimed they were assisting militant groups. But they aren’t the only ones to burn tires, as Daesh (ISIS) is reportedly using similar tactics.
Some Twitter accounts and other sources are now saying that Daesh is likewise burning tires in north Aleppo as US-led coalition jets target them there.
#ISIS is burning tires in al-Rai in N Aleppo to confuse coalition jets. Heavy Turkish artillery fire in support of the #FSA offensive.
So did Daesh get the idea from the Aleppo kids? Apparently not, as some claimed ISIS was doing this in late July in Manbij.

And other reports claim Daesh was burning tires as a tactic as early as 2015 in Iraq.
The world isn’t as celebratory when Daesh appears to burn tires in an effort to distract jets.
