Mlabbas is one of the trendiest clothing stores in Amman. But this week, they posted a controversial picture to their Facebook page of a t-shirt which jokes about killing Egyptian pop superstar Tamer Hosny. They then deleted the pic amidst criticism by their Facebook followers, but it can still be seen below.
From top to bottom, the writing reads Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi, Osama bin Laden, all with check marks next to their names, indicating they have been killed. It then reads Tamer Hosny, without a check next to his name, as he is still alive.
The joke is that all these “bad” mean have been killed, but Hosny has yet to be, and is meant to be a diss to his music. It’s based on a similar shirt in English that has Canadian pop star Justin Bieber’s name alongside Hussein, Gaddafi and bin Laden.
Mlabbas received dozens of comments criticizing the perceived poor taste of the shirt, but today deleted the post without explanation.
Mlabbas did not respond to Al Bawaba’s request for comment for the article.
