Social media is ablaze with commentary as bushfires continue into a third day in Israel. The fires are thought to be the result of several unrelated incidents of politically motivated arson.

A number of countries, including Turkey and Russia, have agreed to send assistance to put out the fires, while tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes in the north of the country.

Despite the danger facing a number of Arab communities, as well as their Jewish neighbours, Arabs have gleefully taken to Twitter and Facebook to proclaim that #TheZionistEntityIsBurning with over 110,000 tweets so far using this and its sister hashtag #IsraelIsBurning.

Football divides us and politics divides us. The Zionist entity unites us - dear Lord, please make a fire burn every day so that it can unite us.

Israel is seeking the help of the world to put out fires, so be sure that it is a fragile and weak state, and that its strength depends upon the weakness of the Arabs and the support of the world.

Some even suggested that the fires were the divine response to Israel’s recent bill banning the use of loudspeakers to broadcast the call to prayer:

They refused the call to prayer so the Almighty responded to him with all his greatness and power When the Muslims became weak, God's punishment came, his most tough punishment.

However, not all Arabs were set alight with joy at the ongoing problems, and some expressed sympathy for Israel.

It is six years since another wildfire, in the Carmel Forest near Haifa, led to the deaths of 40 Israelis. Now, many homes in Haifa are threatened again. It seems, however, that the residents will not be receiving much sympathy from their Arab neighbors.
