A delegation from the African Union Commission, consisting of five African heads of state on Sunday met with Colonel Muammar Gaddafi in Tripoli and senior members of the Transitional National Assembly. The African Union leaders urged "the need for immediate cessation of hostilities" and to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the needy.
Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, who heads the African Union Commission called for a negotiated political solution to the crisis based on the Libyan-inclusive dialogue involving all parties. The African Union has called for an "immediate halt to the fighting in Libya," and to "launch a comprehensive political dialogue between the parties in Libya to ensure that the Libyan people realize their aspirations to democracy and political reform, justice and peace, security and economic and social development."
On the ground, fierce battles were reported between rebels and forces loyal to the Libyan leader of the control of the city of Ajdabiya. Sources said that troops loyal to the Libyan leader killed four rebels in the battle over Ajdabiya.
