At least 41 people were killed in overnight clashes in Sanaa between armed opposition tribesmen and government forces, a medic at Jumhuriya hospital told AFP on Wednesday. There were heavy clashes in the capital throughout the night.

Firefights between tribesmen loyal to Sheikh Sadiq al-Ahmar and security forces resumed in Sanaa on Tuesday after a truce, which was announced on Friday. The government of President Ali Abdullah Saleh accused Ahmar's fighters of breaking the ceasefire.

The defense ministry's 26sep.net website said that tribesmen had seized both the headquarters of the ruling General People's Congress and the main offices of the water utility. Sources close to Ahmar however said Saleh's forces were to blame.
