‘8th Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing’ to focus on sector’s latest researches & new technologies

New technologies and latest researches on sustainability will be the highlight of the '8th Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing', scheduled to be held on 22-24 November.

Held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the conference will serve as a platform for research institutes and industrial partners related to the area of sustainable manufacturing.

The main topics of the conference, presented by the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP) and hosted by Abu Dhabi University (ADU) and Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, will focus on value adding by sustainable manufacturing in the UAE, potentials of renewables, education for sustainability engineering, green supply chain and efficiency, technology driven start-ups, and sustainable products and manufacturing processes.

"The UAE is leading the region in stimulating further research and development in the field of renewable energy and sustainable manufacturing. Last year, Abu Dhabi was chosen to host the headquarters for the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and holding the 8th Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing is another milestone for the emirate," said Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Executive Board of Abu Dhabi University.

"This three-day event serves as a platform for presenting innovations as well as learning first hand the regional and international research and development activities to meet the current challenges in this sector. New technologies, already being developed and applied for a sustainable product and process development protecting environment and health, will also be tackled in the conference," he added.

There will be VIP session with Dr. Nabil Ibrahim, Chancellor of ADU; Prof. Fred Moavenzadeh, President of Masdar Institute; and Prof. Dr. Ing Gunther Seliger, Berlin University of Technology (TU Berlin). Among the main speakers are Hamad Al Hashemi, Director of Dubai Technopark, who will present 'UAE 4 Innovation'; and Prof. Nabil Nasr of Rochester University presenting 'A Framework for Sustainable Production. A case study by Dominik Rohrmus, Corporate Research and Technologies of Siemens will speak about 'Sustainable Manufacturing at Siemens AG'.

In order to provide delegates with well rounded information and a hands-on grasp of concepts, the conference has a series of parallel sessions on Management and Technology topics. Industry experts from the US, Canada, Brazil, the UK, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, the UAE, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and China will present workshops at the event.

The 8th Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing – supported by Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), the conference's exclusive destination partner – is expected to attract representatives from science and industry from around the world. The conference offers keynote speeches, panel discussions and parallel sessions of academic, peer reviewed research papers on this subject matter.

The conference, organised by Aim, the events division of Abu Dhabi University is a follow-up to previous conferences held at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India in December 2009; Pusan National University, Korea in October 2008; Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, USA in September 2007; University of Sao Paulo, Brazil in October 2006; Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China in September 2004 as well as the Environmentally Benign Manufacturing workshop held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA in January 2003.
