1. Georgia, you have been a professional Feng Shui consultant for several years. Could you tell us about your training, and how you became a master?
I started my Feng Shui studies in London in 1996 with renowned Chinese Masters. In 2000 I met Master Raymond Lo from Hong Kong, who took me under his personal tutelage where I gained practical experience. I became his sole European associate in 2001 and I started teaching Feng Shui practitioners in 2002. I received the title of Master from Master Raymond Lo. In Feng Shui it is only the Master that can pass this title. I also became a member of the International Feng Shui Association.
2. What is Feng Shui? Is it an ideology?
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese study that examines the influence of environment on our harmony and prosperity. Feng Shui is accumulated knowledge and observation of more than six thousands years about how shapes, colors, directions and time can have an impact in our life.
A Feng Shui evaluation is not based on intuition, it is based on calculations and measurements using a special compass and some complex formulas.
Feng Shui is not a belief nor a religion. We are affected by our surroundings even if we don’t believe in Feng Shui, even if we are not Chinese, even if we are not living in China. Feng Shui works regardless of beliefs, culture or religion..
3. What can we expect from you at the Dubai Ideal Home Show 2006? Is this your first visit to Dubai?
I will give a discourse on “Feng Shui – How our home can influence our harmony & prosperity” at the Jotun Inspiring Ideas Theater.
The talk will unfold in total 3 parts, from 1st to 3rd of December. Each part will be covering different aspects of Feng Shui. For a better understanding of the subject, it is best to attend them all.
During my talks I will suggest the best placement of furniture in different rooms and I will introduce the influence of time on different directions. I will also give specific Feng Shui advice for 2007. I will explain the Feng Shui of Middle East and Dubai for the next 40 years. This is my second visit to Dubai and I really look forward to it.
4. What are the topics you would be covering during your talk at the Dubai Ideal Home Show 2006?
As part of the Jotun Inspiring Ideas Theatre at Dubai Ideal Home Show 2006, I will introduce Chinese cosmology, yin/yang and the five elements and how those influence our emotions, body, health etc.
I will explain what is Feng Shui, its history and how it is practiced until today. I will show examples and tips about how to deal with various shapes/surroundings/placements inside and outside a home or business and I will suggest precautions using shapes, materials and colors.
I will explain how Feng Shui has has affected history, world events & natural phenomenon. How did HSBC, Peninsula Hotel & Grand Hyatt harness positive Feng Shui.
5. Could you tell us how this could be relevant to designing or arrangement of elements in a room or house?
We can evaluate the Feng Shui of a house by looking at various aspects. The location of the rooms, the directions we face while sleeping, working or watching TV, the colors we use in each room, the location of water features such as fountains and aquariums or the location of hi-fi and computers, they all have an impact in our well being.
The garden of a house, the location of a swimming pool, the flow of a road, the color and shape of a surrounding building also have impact and there are always ways to improve the positive influences and reduce the bad ones.
It is not necessary to go to extremes to apply Feng Shui. There are always alternative solutions for each situation, and there is always a vast choice of colors. A house that has good Feng Shui does not have to look Chinese, it can be adapted in any style.
6. Besides the Dubai Ideal Home Show 2006, are you also participating in other events around the world?
Besides the Dubai Ideal Home Show 2006, I will be one of the speakers at the International Feng Shui Convention in Singapore in November.
7. What are the Four Pillars of Destiny and the I Ching ?
The Four Pillars of Destiny is an ancient Chinese system of forecasting human fortune. According to Chinese cosmology there is an order in everything in this Universe, including human fortune.
By using a special calendar, any given moment (including the year, month, day and hour of birth of a person) can be expressed in terms of elements (metal, water, wood, fire & earth). When the composition of the elements at birth and the current elements of the past, present or future are in balance, then the person is enjoying prosperity, good relationships and good health. When an element is too strong or too weak, the person has difficulties in a certain aspect of life.
This method is quite accurate, and it can help the individual understand the ups and downs in life, in making the right career choices, in marriage match making, in choosing a business partner, in avoiding/reducing health problems before they even appear. The Four Pillars of Destiny may also suggest the personal favourable colors, shapes and materials of an individual, applying them to his clothing or surroundings.
I Ching is another ancient Chinese study that can help us make the right choice. For example, we need to find out how are the chances of marriage with a specific person, or the possibilities of making money through a specific investment, or if we just need to choose between two things. I Ching can tell us what is best and why.
To do an I Ching, someone has to toss three coins on a flat surface and use certain I Ching rules. No intuition is needed to consult I Ching.
I personally use the I Ching just as a very good advice of a very wise friend. I Ching gives me an indication of what to do, but the final decision is mine.
8. Where do you offer your consultancy services and what are the areas of your specialty?
I consult Feng Shui all over the world, but mostly in Europe and the Middle East. I specialize in the time dimension of Feng Shui (flying stars school) and water formulas (effective for wealth enhancement).
I offer Feng Shui advice for an existing home/office/shop, selection of a site/house/office/shop, design of landscape development, design of floor plan for both residential and corporate purposes, garden design.
My expertise also covers the subjects of the Four Pillars of Destiny and the I Ching.
9. Where were you born and where do you live now?
I was born in Athens, Greece. At the moment I am spending time between Switzerland and Greece. Besides Greek, I am fluent in English, German, French and Italian.
10. Have you written any books or articles on Feng Shui?
My first book “The art of Chinese face reading” was published last year in Greece. It was very successful, considering it is the 3rd edition by now. I intend to write a Feng Shui book in English about how to choose auspicious dates for important events.
Moreover, I also write articles in European specialized magazines and newspapers (Germany, Spain, Hungary, Greece etc), I give lectures and I appear in TV shows in Greece and Cyprus.
11. Is Feng Shui important or relevant to corporates as well?
Feng Shui can be applied in any type of building, regardless if it is a house, shop, shopping mall, hotel or corporate company. By Feng Shui-ing the headquarters or a branch of a company, one can improve the money aspect but also the relationships among colleges, reduce sick-reporting, increase productivity and of course to improve the image and popularity of the company.
Feng Shui has been applied in Asia for thousands of years, actually all the Chinese emperors and elite were using it.
Today many Asian corporates also apply it. For example, did you know that HSBC headquarters in Hong Kong are built according to the time dimension Feng Shui principles (Flying Stars)? Not only that, but the building will be demolished and rebuilt at the same place around 2084, because after that year the current building will not be prosperous any more.
Today Feng Shui is also gaining popularity in the West and the Middle East. Hollywood stars, business tycoons, world celebrities apply Feng Shui in order to bring more harmony, prosperity and health in their lives.
