Amid calls for revenge, 10,000 Palestinians came out Thursday for the funeral of a boy shot dead the day before by the Israeli army, witnesses reported.

Mohammed Abu Asi, about 10 years old and from the nearby village of Bani Suhaila, was shot in the chest when Israeli soldiers protecting the Jewish settlement of Netzarim fired on stone-throwing Palestinians.

"Revenge!" shouted the crowd, which also chanted slogans against Israeli right-wing leader Ariel Sharon, whose visit a week ago to Jerusalem's mosque compound set off violent clashes.

Other demonstrators shot in the air.

Meanwhile, 5,000 turned up in Gaza City for the funeral of 21-year-old Ayman Al-Loh, who was also killed the day before.

People at that funeral also called for revenge and endorsed the call of the militant Islamic group Hamas to step up anti-Israeli actions over the coming two days -- KHAN YUNES, Gaza Strip (AFP)
