Trend Micro (TSE:4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), has been identified as the leader in spam detection with a 96.71 % success rate. According to a report by UK’s Westcoast Labs, Trend Micro outperformed other vendors like Symantec, Iron Port, Sophos, Microsoft, Websense, Barracuda, Fortinet and McAfee.

Spam is one of the biggest problems facing network administrators and users today. Unsolicited communication via email intended for commercial gain is financially crippling the bottom line of global businesses.

“Spam is financially damaging for business and individual users,” commented Samir Kirouani, Technical Manager, Middle East and Africa, Trend Micro. “Businesses and individuals need to be better protected. Given the global economic situation, the financial implications resulting from loss of corporate and personal data could be catastrophic.”

“Protection is vital and Trend Micro is a proven market leader in spam detection,” added Kirouani.

Spam affects bandwidth; all email come through a single corporate gateway. On an average, email should consume about 5 % of a company’s bandwidth. With the increase in spam this figure could reach 15% to 20%, adversely affecting the company’s infrastructure resources.

Westcoast Lab’s used two Trend Micro solutions, InterScan Messaging Hosted Security and InterScan Messaging Security Suite. Both finished with the highest catch rates in the test.
