13 dead, 101 rescued after navy speed boat collides with ferry off Mumbai coast

ALBAWABA- In a tragic incident off the Mumbai coast on Wednesday, a Navy speed boat collided with the Neelkamal ferry, claiming 13 lives and leaving two critically injured. 

Maharashtra State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that the ferry was en route to Elephanta Islands, a popular tourist destination, when the accident occurred around 4 PM.

Among the deceased are 10 civilians and 3 Navy personnel, Fadnavis stated during a press briefing in Nagpur. 101 individuals were rescued, and the injured were transported to a Navy hospital for urgent medical care.
The Maharashtra government announced compensation of ₹5 lakh (approximately $6000) from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the families of the deceased. 

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the collision.
