150 representatives of Member States in Abu Dhabi for IRENA

Nearly 150 delegates from 60 countries are gathered in Abu Dhabi from June 21 to June 24 to attend the Administrative Committee of IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency. Also taking place with be the IRENA Working Group meetings.

"The meetings of the Working Groups and the Administrative Committee meetings are important platforms of negotiation and dialogue for the Member States of IRENA and for the Secretariat. They are a venue for ensuring that IRENA is empowered, moving forward, with the neccesary tools, to deliver on its mandate" says Dr Sultan al Jaber, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Change

"The substantial attendance of the Member States demonstrates the great commitment IRENA enjoys from its members." Says Hélène Pelosse, Interim Director General of IRENA.

Key to successful outcomes for the Administrative Committee is the role of the Working Groups.

For two days, delegates dedicated to IRENA's Working Groups will be focused drafting recommendations on legal issues, IRENA's Governance, Headquarters Agreement, 2010 Work Programme, and Management Selection Committee for IRENA.

Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, IRENA is aiming to become the global voice for renewable energy, while promoting a swift transition towards its sustainable use. IRENA is assisting its Member States define their strategy across the fields of all renewable energies: bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind.
