ALBAWABA- On Sunday morning,  an active shooter opened fire during services at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on McCandlish Road in Grand Blanc, leaving three people dead and eight others wounded before setting the building ablaze.

The attack began around 10 a.m., when a lone gunman, identified in early reports as Nigel Max Edge, sat quietly in the congregation before suddenly opening fire.

Panic erupted as congregants fled the sanctuary, some capturing the chaos on social media. The situation escalated when the suspect reportedly ignited a fire inside the church, sending thick smoke pouring from the roof as flames consumed the structure. Fire crews rushed to the scene but were delayed by ongoing gunfire and live ammunition exploding in the heat.

Authorities confirmed that 11 people were shot in the attack. Three victims died at the scene, while eight were transported to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.

Officials described the scene as “horrific,” though they emphasized there is no further threat to the public after the suspect was taken into custody.

Law enforcement agencies, including Grand Blanc police, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, and the FBI, are investigating the assault as a targeted attack on a house of worship.

While the suspect’s motive remains unclear, authorities acknowledged he had a documented history of mental health struggles and had posted erratic content online in recent months.
