ALBAWABA- A Somali police spokesperson reported late Friday that attacks on a hotel and the popular Lido Beach in Mogadishu resulted in at least 32 people being killed and 63 others injured. The death toll may rise, as security forces were still engaging the attackers.

Shocking images and videos from eyewitnesses circulated on social media, showing people fleeing the beach in panic. Rescue teams struggled to reach the injured due to ongoing gunfire.

The terrorist group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack through its radio station.

On March 15, 2024, Somali security forces announced the end of a 12-hour siege at a hotel in Mogadishu by killing all five gunmen involved in the attack. 

The incident resulted in the deaths of three soldiers and injuries to 27 others, including three members of parliament and the government spokesperson.

The Syl Hotel, a popular spot among government officials, was targeted by the jihadist group al-Shabab on Thursday night. The Somali government has not yet issued an official statement regarding the attack.

The situation underscores the ongoing security challenges in Somalia, where al-Shabab continues to pose a significant threat.
