In a poll conducted by the Israeli Tami Steinmetz Center for Peace Research at Tel Aviv University, 35.4 percent of the Israeli adults said they are certain that there will be no peace between Israel and the Palestinians, while only 6.4 were certain that peace is coming.
According to the center, this survey was expanded to include Israeli Arabs and tables are available with breakdown for total population and Jewish population. “The survey, however, is limited to the adult Jewish population,” with a 4.5 percent margin of error.
The results indicated that 24.3 percent “think” there will be peace. 7.2 percent fell in the middle, and 24.1 percent think there will not be peace, while 2.5 percent had no opinion.
In response to a question if the respondent considers himself/herself a supporter or opponent of the peace process between Israel and the Arabs, 10.1 percent of the study population were greatly opposed to peace, 8.0 percent said there are considerably opposed, 10.3 percent came in the middle, whereas 32.2 percent said they support peace considerably.
38.0 percent were greatly supportive of peace, and 1.4 percent were indecisive.
Meanwhile, 25.6 percent of the respondents said they were heavily opposed to the 1993 Oslo accords signed between Israel and the PLO. 16.3 percent said they were considerable against the agreemnt, in comparison with 9.6 percent who support Oslo heavily, and 22 percent considerably.
The study findings showed that only 4 percent of the Israelis believe there will definitely be peace between Israel and Syria, while 28.3 percent believed the opposite.
66.3 were opposed to full withdrawal from the Golan Heights, against 22.2 who were in favor of such a deal.
In response to a question whether or not the “ Palestinians claim that they deserve their own independent state,” is justifiable the answers came as follows “Very justified 15.0 percent considerably justified 38.1 percent considerably unjustified 14.1 percent completely unjustified 29.1 percent. DO not know 3.7 percent”
